About Penn Stewart

As a teacher...
Penn earned a PhD in English from the University of Nebraska in 2012 and an MFA from the University of Memphis in 2007. His teaching experience includes workshops at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Memphis, the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center, Western Illinois University, and the West Central Illinois Arts Center.

As a writer...
Penn has published short stories, flash fiction, personal essays, book reviews, articles, and poetry in print and online journals such as Prairie Schooner, Word Riot, Front Porch Review, Union Station Magazine, Ellipsis, Fresh Yarn, A River and a Sound Review, and elsewhere.


His forthcoming novel Fertile Ground is partially set in Fort Lincoln, North Dakota. The former military base is now home to United Tribes Technical College. During WW II it was an internment camp for Germans and Japanese nationals as well as American citizens of German descent.
